Bhajan Samrat Nana Shirgaonkar. He was the eldest son of Manoharbuva Shirgaonkar. He is a renowned bhajanist and music teacher, bhajan artist good table player the best harmonium player was well known all over Goa as a versatile artist with a good violin and a pakhwaj teacher loved music since childhood he was drawn to the art of music because of the musical atmosphere at home Nana Shirgaonkar along with his other contemporary senior bhajan colleagues was always busy in promoting and disseminating bhajans with the same zeal to fulfil his late father’s dream of bhajan subject. Manoharbuva Shirgaonkar was one of the best points of the Gomantakiya bhajani tradition and the tradition of Bhajan which has been created in Goa is called the Manohar Bhajan style. This beautiful hymn style was carried forward by many disciples of Manoharbuva. He made many disciples but in the true sense of the word Nana Shirgaonkar did the work of spreading his tradition all over Goa in the suhit sense by blending in with the music of Manoharbuva. Narayan (Nana) Shirgaonkar was born on November 9 1938 at Kasarvane Pedne. After that he went to school in Shirgaon. Having a senior and great guru like Manoharbuva, he developed a love and interest in music. He had the opportunity to participate in the village bhajan circles from his childhood as well as to participate in bhajans with Manoharbuva in small and big festivals in Goa. He learned the art of playing the harmonium, tabla and singing from his father. He also studied classical music with Pundit Shripadbuva Madaye Guruji and the title of “Music Master” of Ghandharva Mahamandal.
